Accelerated Reader

We use the STAR test to determine an initial reading level for our students. This test indicates a range of books. If the student selects books within this range, it is very likely that he/she will be able to comprehend with at least 85% accuracy. An accuracy score of 85% or higher is your child's first goal. In addition to that, each student is given an individual points goal based on his/her reading level and past performance. Please check the front of your child's agenda for this quarter's reading level and points goal.

Students who reach their points goal with at least 85% accuracy, will be invited to an AR celebration at the end of the quarter. In the past, these celebrations have included extra recess, popcorn and a movie, bring a game, Wii dance, ice cream sundaes, and more!

Many books have an AR test. Those here at school and at public libraries are clearly marked with AR stickers and levels. You may find find that some of your child's favorite books from home are also AR. To check any book go to www.arbookfind.com.

Students may read at home but can only take tests while at school between 8am and 4pm. Students may not look back into the book during the test. Most 2nd grade books will have 5 multiple choice questions while longer books will have ten questions. Students are encouraged to read a book several times to ensure understanding
before taking the test.

Please ask your child about his/her AR progress today!
